Soil
Healthy Lawns & Gardens
To have a healthy lawn or flourishing garden, it’s important to understand the nutrients in your soil. You can learn more at the University of Minnesota’s Website.
Our soil contains organic compost that will help your lawn or garden grow.
Soil Material
Our soil contains organic compost that is treated for jumping worms. The soil blend is heated to over 160°F, 7-9 times during the composting process which kills the jumping work cocoons, if present. Here is some additional information from WI DNR.
Soil- Rain Garden Blend- 30% Compost, 70% Sand
This special blend allows stormwater to infiltrate into the ground. The sand in the Rain Garden Blend allows infiltration of rainwater and prevents erosion. The compost incorporated in the blend aids in plant growth.
Recommended use: Good for high water areas where infiltration is needed.
Soil- Garden Blend 40/40/20
Garden Blend is a 40% black topsoil 40% compost 20% true peat. This is great for raised garden beds and adding soil to existing garden
** Cheaper Garden Blends don’t have true Peat**
There is only 1 source of true Peat in Minnesota.
Minnesota peatlands are approximately 6,000 years old and contain the largest development of patterned peatlands in the lower 48 states. The fields produce fine grade sphagnum and reed-sedge peat moss. Minnesota peat is comparable to any European or Canadian product.
The peat in this blend helps naturally produce lower pH levels that vegetables prefer. The compost acts as a rich soil amendment while the topsoil adds a mineral component that is critical to well-balanced garden soil.
Recommended Uses: Use for vegetable gardens, flower gardens, and potting plants.
Soil- 100% Compost
Our compost helps improve soil structure and nutrition to create healthy lawns, high-yielding gardens, and vibrant flower beds.
Our compost is tested monthly at a third-party lab for quality assurance and has been STA certified through the National Seal of Testing Assurance Program. Seven Generations Compost is ideal for already established gardens, turf establishment, horticulture, and agricultural applications.
Recommended Use: For gardens or new turf establishment, add 1-2 inches over surface area and till in with a shovel or rotary tiller. For established lawn maintenance, spread over lawn in a thin (1/4” – 1/2”) layer and rake out for even coverage. Apply around the roots of trees and woody plants to enhance growth, and water thoroughly. For planting, mix 1 part compost with 1 part soil and blend well
Fill dirt
Fill dirt usually clay, sand and rocky material that is not good for growing things but more for filling a void.
