This one is shaping up to be something really special. We are mid-build on a lake view property, and the bones of this outdoor space are looking sharp. Large-format pavers, a built-in fire pit, a curved retaining wall - this is the kind of project where every piece has to be placed with intention.

The paver field is the anchor of the whole design. We went with a large-format tile-style paver in a charcoal and gray blend, paired with a crisp light border that frames the entire surface. That contrast between the dark field and the lighter border edge is what gives the patio a clean, finished look instead of just a flat slab of stone. The detail work at the corners matters a lot here - those mitered border edges take extra time, but the result is worth it.

The curved retaining wall wraps the back edge of the patio and ties the whole space together. Building a wall with that kind of radius is not a straight-cut job - it takes careful block selection and precise drilling to pin the courses and keep everything solid. That wall is not just decorative either. It holds grade, creates a defined boundary, and gives the space a sense of enclosure without boxing it in.

Right at the center of it all sits a round fire pit built directly into the paver field. The circular insert is set flush with the surrounding surface, which keeps the space functional and walkable in every direction. Once the final cuts are done and the softscapes come in around the edges, this space is going to feel like a completely different property.

Projects like this are what we are built for. A lakefront setting, a complex layout, multiple hardscape elements working together - it pushes us to do our best work. When the softscapes go in and this thing is fully finished, the view from this patio is going to be hard to beat.
