Some backyards just don't work. The yard is uneven, the pool area is muddy and patchy, there's no clean path to get anywhere - and the whole space feels like a project instead of a place to relax. That's exactly what we were dealing with on this one.

We came in and addressed the yard from multiple angles. The slope along the fence line needed a retaining wall to hold everything in place and create a defined edge. We built that out using block wall construction, then filled the lower side with large river rock to handle drainage and keep maintenance low. No grass to mow in tight spots, no erosion to worry about - just a clean, functional buffer.

On the pool side, we laid fresh sod to give the homeowners actual usable lawn space right next to the water. New trees and mulch beds were added along the back of the house to frame the space and add some structure to what was otherwise just open yard. The mulch beds were edged and filled clean - young evergreen trees planted with room to grow.

The pool equipment area got its own treatment. We set large stepping stones through a river rock bed to create a clear, low-maintenance path straight to the equipment - no more walking through grass or mud to get there. The rock installation keeps the area looking sharp while also making it practical to access for service and upkeep. Every piece of this yard had a purpose when we were done with it.

That's the thing about a full landscape install - when it all comes together, the yard stops being something you look at and becomes something you actually use. Sod for the lawn, rock for the low-maintenance zones, mulch and trees for the beds, and a retaining wall to hold it all in place. Each element doing its job.
